Principles of management

Management principles are the fundamental truth of general validity which has to value in predicting the result of management action. These fundamental principles also are known as 14 principles of management. They are

1. Centralization principleone authority man controlling others

Centralization refers to the flow the authority and information from the center of the organization. Where the major authority should not be given to the subordinates.



2. Initiative principle

All levels of personnel should be encouraged to show initiative as it is a source of satisfaction.

3. Division of work principlegiving one work to many people

Necessary for the efficiency of labor as it reduces the span of attention or effort. Hence, it increases specialization.






4. Unity of commandgiving command

One person, one superior and employees should receive orders from one superior only to reduce confusion.







5. Scalar chain

It is a chain of superior or line of authority. Where authority flows from top to bottom.

6. Equity

Equity refers to loyalty and devotion from personal by use of kindness and justice on the part of the manager.

7. Remuneration

Under this pay should be fair to both worker and firm.

8. Unity of directionelements of unity of direction

Unity of direction is one head, one plan for a group of activities with the same activities.




9. Subordination of the individual interest to general interests

The interest of the individual or one group should not prevail (succeed) over the general group.

10. Esprit de corps

In union, there is the strength. This is an emphasis on teamwork, harmony, and communication.

11. Order

A place of everything i.e. the right person in the right job or place.

12. Stability of tenure of personnel

It refers to the costs and dangers of turnover due to bad management.

13. Discipline

Respect for formal & informal agreements between the firm and workers and obedience to rules and regulation.

14. Authority and responsibility

Under this the right to give others.


Processes of management

The process of management also known as functions of management. There are main four processes of management planning and decision making, organizing, and staffing, directing and controlling. These processes are

  • Planning and decision making
  • Organizing and staffing
  • Directing
  • Controlling


1. Planning and decision-making processmaking plan and decision

Planning is the process of deciding in advance about what to do. How to do it. When and where to do it, who is to do it, etc. Planning is the setting of goals and choosing an action to achieve them.

Decision making is the process of selecting an alternative from available many alternatives.



2. Organizing and staffing process

Organizing is the process of creating structure. It is a reason for establishing a working relationship among employees, jobs, and unit of organization to achieve goals.

And, staffing is a management function which concerned with controlling and maintaining human resources in an organization.

3. Directing

Directing is a management function regarding instructing, guiding, inspiring, communicating and supervising subordinates for effective and efficient performance towards organizational interests.

4. Controllingtry to control

Controlling is the process of correcting performance of individual units, departments, and whole organization to improve to overall organizational performance towards goal achievement. In simple words, controlling is the function of taking corrective action whenever and wherever required.


In conclusion, may we will say, these are all process applicable and applied in all types of organization. Either they are small or large, newly launched or old, manufacturer or service provider and so on. These management processes are applied so management is known as universally applicable statements.
